July 27, 2010

John Lescroart Hola, amigos! I hope you're all having a wonderful summer.

After I returned from the "trip of a lifetime" to the Galapagos Islands, I immediately got down to work and did my copy editing and then my galley proof editing of DAMAGE, the Abe Glitsky/Wes Farrell book that's scheduled to be published on January 4, 2011. Mark your calendars!!! Now the Advanced Reading Copy is out with reviewers and book buyers, and with no writing deadline coming up until next June 1, I must admit that the dreaded summer slowdown is stalking me relentlessly.

But this is not to say it's been an uneventful summer. After the trip to the Galapagos, we'd barely unpacked when we packed up again and flew to New York for the Thrillerfest. This is the yearly meeting of the International Thriller Writers, and it's a terrific venue—The Grand Hyatt Hotel—to meet with colleagues, fans, agents, and publishers. I was flattered to learn that the Thriller Committee chose me to be one of the three Spotlight Authors at next year's Thrillerfest, which is quite an honor. And just last week, I was the opening day speaker at the Book Passage Mystery Conference in Corte Madera. This is one of the longest-running and best mystery conferences on the planet, and it was a joy to be on the same program as Michael Connelly, Bob Crais, Jacqueline Winspear, Cara Black, Sheldon Siegel, Tim Maleeny, David Corbett, Denise Hamilton, Katherine Neville, Tony Broadbent, and many many more.

Plague of Secrets Next, of course, I wanted to thank all of you for helping to put A PLAGUE OF SECRETS on the New York Times Bestseller list and to keep it there for four weeks, which in this market is a more than credible run. Another extremely positive development is that I'm delighted to announce that I've just signed with my wonderful publishers, Dutton, for another two-book deal, which should keep me off the streets and gainfully tapping my keyboard at least through June of 2012. The first book under that contract—and you heard it here first—is entitled SCAVENGER HUNT. As the name indicates, it's another Wyatt Hunt story where Wyatt is led on a digital chase by an unidentified ally to hunt down the killer of his own parents! I actually can't wait to start putting down some pages—so I can find out what happens!

And don't forget to keep an eye out for some of the anthologies I've contributed to, including HOOK, LINE & SINISTER (Unsnaggable is my story); FIRST THRILLS (The Gato Conundrum); and THRILLERS: 100 MUST READS, doubly exciting for me because I'm featured both as an author of one of the essays, on DEATH WISH, by Brian Garfield; and the subject of another essay by Carna Bodham, for my own book THE 13TH JUROR.

See you next month.
